Train beautiful handwriting and build excellent character in your children with these new workbooks from two homeschool moms.

When I first read about Character Italics: Building Character Through Handwriting by Martine Cox and Wendy Shaw, I gave a great whoop of excitement.

This was an idea that was bound to happen.

  • Lay aside your fear of not ‘covering everything.’
  • Get rid of the idea that there’s a perfect curriculum out there that you haven’t yet found
  • Resolve to let your children make a mess this year … at least every so often(!)
  • Remember that making mistakes is often the best way of learning … both your mistakes and your children’s.

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes.
Art is knowing which ones to keep.
Scott Adams, Dilbert Cartoonist

The One Thing I Do

  1. Answer this question yourself: If there was one art project I could enjoy with my children this year, what would it be?
  2. Ask your children: If there was just one art project you could do this year, something you’ve always wanted to do, what would it be?
  3. What’s keeping you from doing those art projects?

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing
because he could only do a little.
Edmund Burke

Say it Out Loud!

What is the one thing you’re going to do this year? How about your children? And what is stopping you?

If you let me know in the comments below, not only can we rejoice with you when you meet your goal, I can help you with specific future posts that address your needs.

Let’s keep each other accountable.

Ever hear, “Why do I have to learn this?”

Here’s the start of a series to help your children see the relevance of art to everyday life.

I’ve been looking through the latest offerings at BookCloseouts.com and thought you’d like to know about these bargains.

This terrific site is running a $1 sale on 1,000 titles for the month of August. But you don’t have to search through the sale. I’ve found the great art-related titles for you.

Some other deeply discounted titles caught my eye too that are listed as well.

As I’m writing this, all the titles are in stock but they won’t hang around for long.

Most of them had 50-100 copies still available. (I found some real gems with 1 or 2 copies left but didn’t want to frustrate you by listing them only for you to find they’d all gone.)

And yes, I’m stocking up myself on this one! Continue Reading »

What Should I Use?

Many homeschoolers ask me to recommend the right art curriculum for their child.

(And one of my goals for our newsletter and blog is to give honest reviews of current homeschool art curriculum.) And yes, I know you need some specific guidance with how to teach art.

But it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking there must be a perfect curriculum out there somewhere.

Instead … try looking for the Spirit-led provision for the specific needs of your children.  After all, you know them better than anyone, even the best curriculum writers.

How?
