Easy Steps to Your Best Art Year Ever, Part 1
Aug 10th, 2008 by Michelle
- Lay aside your fear of not ‘covering everything.’
- Get rid of the idea that there’s a perfect curriculum out there that you haven’t yet found
- Resolve to let your children make a mess this year … at least every so often(!)
- Remember that making mistakes is often the best way of learning … both your mistakes and your children’s.
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes.
Art is knowing which ones to keep.
Scott Adams, Dilbert Cartoonist
The One Thing I Do
- Answer this question yourself: If there was one art project I could enjoy with my children this year, what would it be?
- Ask your children: If there was just one art project you could do this year, something you’ve always wanted to do, what would it be?
- What’s keeping you from doing those art projects?
Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing
because he could only do a little.
Edmund Burke

Wow! What an encouraging article (The One Thing I Do” ).
I am not an art person AT ALL; but Michelle’s idea of just thinking, “What one thing do I want to accomplish this year?” is a life saver. In fact last year I took a “vow” that we would not finish the year without doing a salt-dough map; and we did - a poster board sized topographical map of South America. Daniel was so proud of himself; and I was probably even prouder of myself! Yes, I can!
And, what an amazing website! I learned so much just about the Olympics in a few simple clicks. Keep up the great work and thanks fo making learning easier for all of us!

I think http://www.artsology.com is a fun and valuable arts resource for the homeschooling crowd - my kids love it and have learned a lot.
